I’ve had no problems with DOS programs under Win2K. If you go to the properties page of the executable you want to run, you can set all sorts of options for how you want Windows to handle the application. (From cramming to autoexec files, straight towindow settings.) I would still try installing and running the application on Windows and then really see if you need to make a few changes.

Remember that the autoexec.bat and config.sys files have been replaced by the autoexec.nt and config.nt files.
There may also be an old version of command.Hidden web at the root of C:
You may have to provide it.
    Some DOS exercises work fine.
    Some require very careful maintenance.

In response, so you can run DOS applications under Windows 2000

It’s possible, but a bit risky. When a DOS application tries to access devices directly, Win2K starts to fail.

Some software has built-in replacement to ensure that a particular OS version can usually be installed before a device can be installed, but I was able to install on Win98 on a trusted dual-boot system and then on WinXP.

How do I run a DOS command?

Click Start.Click Run.Type cmd or control and press Enter.

The same thing MAY happen with Win2K.

However, WinXP is much better than Win2K when it comes to running applications with errors. It has virtual devices that check for real devices like a DOS app, but are only managed securely by WinXP.

How do I open a DOS window?

Press Windows + X together with then click “Command Prompt”.Press Windows + R, then type “cmd” and click the path to open a command prompt.Sometimes you can search for command prompt in the start menu to confirm this. In File Explorer, simply click on the address bar or press Alt+D.

As mentioned in the other method, there are options you can set to do the o edits. More importantly, it works whether it’s running its own path or using a generic DOS process, the NTVDM process.

This is considered a problem if you are running multiple DOS processes.

    Two things to consider are…

one. DOS programs must communicate through a shared memory area.
Means… assemble the generic ntvdm process yourself (i.e. usually don’t change how DOS starts)

B company. You want to improve stability as well as running each DOS process in its own memory space and consuming more memory in general, but it won’t pull another DOS program along with it when diving…
